Biography
Born in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province in 1980, Gu Liang studied painting at Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. Since graduating and moving to live and work in Beijing, his work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions in China, and in several solo shows in Beijing, Taipei, Singapore and New York. His meticulously crafted works demonstrate his interest in illusionistic light and shadow, creating apparently 3-D forms on a 2-D surface, multi-dimensional spaces in which planes, lines, light and shadow intersect in almost Escher-like optical illusions.
