Biography
Shinji Ohmaki, a Japanese interdisciplinary artist born in 1971, is known for his large-scale site-specific installations that challenge viewers' perceptions of space, time, and the sublime. Using simple materials, he transforms ephemeral moments and invisible phenomena into tangible installations. Through audience interaction and physical engagement with his works, viewers' perceptions of weight, time, and their own bodies in space are altered. Ohmaki's notable installations include "Liminal Air-Black Weight," where a dense black prism made of nylon string descends from the ceiling, and "Liminal Air Space-Time Series," where suspended fabric moves with airflow. He has exhibited in various venues and museums in Japan, including the Mito Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. Ohmaki has also participated in international art events such as the Yokohama Triennale and the Asia Pacific Triennale. He currently resides and works in Tokyo.
