Notes
‘Flotage – Tectonics’ was inspired by the winter landscape from an artist-in-residence program at the University of Vermont, USA in 2004. Ohmaki uses the metaphor of snow visually obliterating the previous landscape to explore how the memory of space is overwritten across different temporal interactions, describing the process of memory like tectonic shifts or flotsam. Other formal elements directly reference the landscape, such as the white silkscreened lines on the perspex blocks drawing from the wave-like patterns formed on the snow and ice by the wind.
