Chen Wenbo is best known for intensely detailed large-scaled canvases, painted in bright, glossy colours in a hyper-realist fashion, often focusing on small details of everyday life. His series of paintings and works on paper in the ‘Vitamin’ series depicts androgynous, clubbing young people, with a scattered rainbow of coloured pills across their faces, a reference to the increasing use of drugs by Chinese youth in the country’s large cities, and a comment on the speed of consumerism and urbanisation in China.
