Notes
Having spent twenty years living in the United States before he returned to China, You Si has fused the technique of traditional Chinese painting with influences from western abstract painting. A bold use of kaleidoscopic colours and patterns on rice paper characterises his large mural paintings, which are filled with gigantic flowers, mysterious organisms, swirls and distorted body parts. Here, abstract swirls create forms that suggest an erotic collection of breasts and genitalia, with waving arms and legs amongst the psychedelia, like a mandala of pleasure.
