Zhou Xiaohu's technique of melding time-based media with more traditional forms such as painting is seen in Borderism (2012) and Mirror Image of Beijing (2013); in both the artist has painted sections of a scene with oil paint onto the video screen – a collision of still and moving image that renders the audience doubtful for a moment about what they are seeing.
