Biography
Multidisciplinary artist Kwan Sheung Chi was born in Hong Kong in 1980, and studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, graduating in 2003. He is interested in promoting cultural dialogue: in addition to his studio practice, he developed HKADC (Hong Kong Arts Discovery Channel), a web-based channel that promotes critical discourse through interviews with artists, curators, critics and audience. Kwan’s witty and often absurdist work has been exhibited internationally, including in Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World, at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2017. In 2013 he was the winner of the first Hugo Boss Asia Art Award for emerging artists, and in 2009 was awarded the Starr Foundation Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council. Kwan Sheung Chi has participated in residencies in New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo. He lives and works in Hong Kong.
