Biography
Born in Harbin in China’s far north-east in 1963, Zhang Dali graduated from Beijing’s Central Academy of Arts and Design (now incorporated into Tsinghua University) in 1987. He gained international attention in the 1990s as a street artist, before turning to monumental sculptural installations and innovative photographic works focused on aspects of Chinese history and society. Zhang Dali’s work has been exhibited in China and across the globe since 1989, including in the Busan Biennale (2016); Voice of the Unseen, a collateral event at the 55th Venice Biennale, Venice (2013); 4th Guangzhou Triennial (2012) and Speech Matters, 54th Biennale of Venice, Denmark Pavilion, Venice (2011).  Zhang Dali lives and works in Beijing.
