Biography
Xu Zhongmin, born in Mianyang, Sichuan in 1961, is an artist who skillfully utilizes the traditional technique of Chinese woodblock printing in his earlier works. With delicately incised lines chiselled into pear wood blocks, he brings to life a series of towering cityscapes, blending stylized and distorted elements that evoke various atmospheres ranging from bustling movement to serene tranquility. Inspired by both the visionary architect Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome and the recurring patterns found in Tibetan Buddhist iconography, Xu Zhongmin's recent creations feature intricate sculptures with stainless-steel egg-planets orbiting silver skeletons, accompanied by an army of marching babies embarking on a relentless and purposeless journey.

Having graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1987, Xu Zhongmin assumed the position of chairperson for the Ba Di Cao Arts Society. In the same year, he relocated to Beijing and later moved to England in 1992, where he resided and worked for an extended period before returning to China. In 1995, Xu Zhongmin presented his debut exhibition at the October Gallery, marking a significant milestone in his artistic career.
