Biography
Shang Chengxiang was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in 1985 and graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2008. His unsettling, hyper-realistic paintings reveal the influence of the Surrealist artist, René Magritte; he cites dreams and dream states as a primary source of his uncanny imagery, which is often subtly inflected by a sci-fi sensibility. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across China and is held in the DSL Collection (France), Blue Roof Museum of Chengdu, American Consulate in Shenyang and Suzhou Jinji Lake Art Museum. He lives and works in Shenyang.
