Biography
Multi-disciplinary artist Song Xi was born into a Daur family in 1983 in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang province (the Daur are a Mongolic-speaking ethnic minority people in north-eastern China). He graduated in 2006 with a B.A. from the Dalian Institute of Light Industry, now Dalian Polytechnic University. Exploring issues of the body and cognition, ideology, social context and human history, he works across multiple media including video, photography, installation, performance and painting. Via his experimental use of various materials drawn from everyday life, Song creates unique and unexpected visual effects. His work has been shown widely in solo and group exhibitions within and beyond China, including the 3rd Beijing Photography Biennial, 2018; 11th Shanghai Biennial, 2016; The World is Not Flat, Sydney, 2017; Art Keep Pain, Kaohsiung, 2015. Song Xi lives and works in Shanghai.
