Biography
Born in 1969 in Hubei, Liu Fei was trained in the Chinese Painting Department of Hubei Institute of Fine Art, graduating in 1995. Belonging to the generation who witnessed dramatic changes in recent Chinese history, Liu creates characters often casting a rebellious and spooky look to its audiences, reflecting his own disapproval and sarcasm to the social reality. His work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in China and internationally, including ‘Art & Beyond – Liu Fei & Liu Hong Solo Exhibition’, Yang Gallery, Singapore (2019); Joke, 9 Space, Beijing (2013); ‘Assume A Pose’, and ‘Outside Painting’, both held in Vanguard Gallery, Shanghai (in 2009 and 2007); and ‘What makes Shanghai Addictive?’, Berlin, Germany (2007). Liu Fei lives and works in Shanghai.
