Biography
Born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in 1981, Liu Yujia is an artist who explores the concept of the beach as a borderland between land and sea. Liu holds a BFA from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and an MA from the London College of Communication. Currently based in Beijing, her work delves into the temporary escape and separate reality offered by the beach. Inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's "The Gay Science," Liu's artwork "Wave" (2017) reflects the waves' relentless pursuit and hunger for hidden treasures. Through her creations, Liu prompts viewers to contemplate the interplay between stillness and movement, as well as the yearnings and meaning-seeking inherent in human existence.
