Biography
Born in 1980 in Nantou, a province in the geographical centre of Taiwan, Hsu Wei-Ying studied art education before embarking on her MFA at Taipei National University of the Arts, graduating in 2007. In 2008 she commenced doctoral study at National Taiwan Normal University’s Department of Fine Arts, graduating with her PhD in 2019. Hsu has developed a visual language incorporating her expertise in screen printing with Chinese traditions of gongbi painting and the eastern Gouache techniques brought to Taiwan by the Japanese. Her work has been shown widely in group and solo exhibitions in Taiwan, Mainland China, Korea and Spain. She has received a number of awards for her work and has been collected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
