Hsu Tang-Wei was born in 1980 in Taiwan, but he currently lives and works in New York. He obtained a BA in Architecture at the Shih Chien University and was awarded an MFA at the Tainan National University of the Arts. His paintings begin from an imagined fantasy space extending into installation, sculpture and public art. Hsu creates complex drawings as well as mixed media installations composed of his drawings, paintings, and architectural features. His works often allude to nature, and reference physical features of our universe like the stars and planets, either at close range or at a distance. Hsu describes his work as ‘Contemporary art with a mix of animation and graphic design’. By combining imaginary worlds with practical architectural features, he asks us to suspend our disbelief, to embrace his fantasy terrains and enjoy them as part of our everyday surroundings. Hsu Tang-Wei’s work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mainland China.
