Biography
Fibre artist Wen-Ying Huang was born in 1960 in Taiwan. After first studying in Taiwan, she pursued her interest in new techniques of weaving in the USA, graduating in 1993 with an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Taiwan, the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and in Europe and the USA. Huang has been presented with several awards for her innovative weaving practice that incorporates craft traditions and technology, including the Freeman Fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center in 1996 and a diploma from the 4th International Textile Art Biennial, Kaunas, in 2003. Wen-Ying Huang lives and works in Tainan, where she is an associate professor at the Graduate Institute of Applied Arts, Tainan National University of the Arts.
