Xu Zhen® and his MadeIn ‘art production corporation’ challenge received notions of art, truth and authenticity in a globalised world. He is both earnest and parodic, an iconoclastic trickster who is also very serious. Here Xu presents us with the sound waves of speeches made by unidentified politicians associated with the never-ending crisis of the Middle East. We have no idea whether these frozen seismographs are visual representations of the voices of George W. Bush, Osama Bin Laden or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – Xu Zhen® suggests it is all just so much sound and fury, signifying nothing.
