Notes
‘Dance’ reveals Zheng Haozhong’s love affair with certain artists working in the 1960s and 1970s in Britain, among them David Hockney, Lucien Freud, Francis Bacon and R.B. Kitaj. The bravura confidence of his drawing is evident in the solidity of the two chairs, and the pale, insubstantial outline of the seated figure which contrasts with the area of black scribble and the daring orange swatch of colour in the background. Zheng’s works reflect his own world – small town life in Zhujiajiao and his Shandong hometown, his studio, his models and his friends.
