Notes
Longdong (Long Cave) is the largest bay on the Northeast Coast of Taiwan, and its sheer sandstone cliffs at the southern edge have become a premier rock-climbing destination. Liang Chen-Ming’s large ink painting render the rock platform in meticulous detail, juxtaposing western perspectival landscape painting with Chinese ink painting traditions. Its subdued colour and grid-like squares create a melancholy atmosphere; there is a subtle suggestion of the forces of erosion, of rising sea levels and fast-disappearing natural beauty in our contemporary age of anxiety.
