For his large installations Liu has gleaned objects and materials from his immediate environment. He reassembles detritus found on building sites, such as metal piping, old timber window frames, doorways and architraves, into complex architectural constructions. He has used more surprising materials, too, such as textbooks, ornate furniture, and even rawhide dog chews. Big Dog—Death Star (2015-2016) is a disintegrating representation of the Star Wars space station that has the power to destroy an entire planet.
