Notes
Some Days Later (2015) represents a mundane kitchen sink, filled with dirty dishes. Dribbles of soy sauce and traces of noodles tell a tale of an ordinary life, with its endless repetition of daily chores. Historically, Chinese art has never been about realism for its own sake – even the ancient tradition of ‘gongbi’ painting, with its immensely detailed and technically meticulous approach to representation is narrative in intent. Similarly, Gao Rong creates a narrative of her life through the medium of embroidery.
