Ava Hsueh speaks of her abstract visual language as a process of ‘mapping the mind’, seeking coordinates that will reconcile subjectivity and objectivity, the known and unknown, cognition and reality. ‘What kind of transit line forms the basis of these coordinates?’ she asks. By focusing her gaze on images observed and remembered, the artist integrates information from within and without. In her visual syntax of line and mark is found the passage of time and the span of a life, the spark of energy and its collision with matter.' Moving Realm' (2014) emerged from a period of renewed energy and optimism following the artist’s recovery from a serious illness. An almost monochrome painting enlivened with red, rose madder and ochre, the large canvas is suffused with raw vitality.
