Notes
To prevent digital images from looking jagged when they are enlarged, computers insert extra pixels, or Added Interpolation Points (AIP). Chang Nai-Wen emulates this process in white marble. Enlarging and re-enlarging the mouth, which “represents desire”, the artist becomes a kind of human 3D printer. But unlike a printer, he can see and feel his output. And rather than simply imitate, he invests his work with “memories, understanding, art”.
