Notes
‘Volcanic Ash’ is Ouyang Chun’s first foray into sculpture – he is best known as a painter of whimsical and expressionist works. He has modelled 960 tiny figures, animals and objects from clay and had them cast in bronze. He was thinking about what might remain of twenty-first-century civilisation if our cities were to be covered overnight by volcanic ash and lava, buried like Pompeii. What might archaeologists of a future civilisation unearth, and what would they make of our tools, our precious objects and our pre-occupations?
