Liao Guohe adapts the language of painting to the age of Twitter — his calligraphy is an abbreviated shorthand that is oftentimes a cry of outrage. Despair and Freedom (2008), for instance, shows a naked lion-headed male figure, roughly drawn as a brown outline, that appears to have lost a bunch of coloured balloons.
