Notes
In “The Decisive Battle On China East Fairy Airline”, a plane has its outer shell rendered invisible, revealing an unusual triptych of battles within. In each section, or compartment, a “guardian” battles, defeats, or lies in wait for opponents, while outside, piles of track suited victims lie in postures of defeat. Ying Yefu’s command of the meticulous and demanding ancient Chinese technique of gongbi painting, which requires the artist to control the finest of fine lines applied with a brush, is here mixed with other East Asian influences from Japanese and Korean traditions, as well as more recent influences from manga and anime – and perhaps from American superhero comics.
