Notes
Li Jun is interested in ambiguities, absences, the shadows of things. His first solo show in Hong Kong featured a series of works created between 2008 and 2011 that merge photography with performance art and documentation. He had left the objects in his Chengdu apartment sit undisturbed for an entire year, so that they were covered with dust. When the objects were moved, they had left a faint memory of their shapes behind, drawing our attention to ephemerality and impermanence. Works such as ‘Shadow’ are intentionally ambiguous. We think of photography as a record of the real, yet here the camera seems to have caught the trace of an action that remains utterly mysterious.
