The Physique of Consciousness Museum series presents images and objects from diverse historical periods and cultural contexts. Organised and displayed in museum vitrines, they constitute a taxonomy of gestures collected from figures of Christ, Buddha and Hindu deities, as well as from yoga and folkloric dances. The work is based on a set of invented exercises in which movements from different religious rituals and traditions were choreographed as routines. Here the body itself is defined as a text, and its controlled and prescribed movements become a kind of ‘writing’, repeatedly inscribing elements of history and culture on the surrounding air.
