In a series of hand-coloured gelatin silver prints Dong Wensheng alludes to, yet slyly subverts, traditions of Chinese scroll and fan painting. In 199704, for example, a sprig of camellias is surrounded by a circular shape alluding to a moon window. But the branch of flowers is held in place by a humble clothes peg.
