Notes
One of Liang Yuanwei’s earliest works, Salt Series, Little Clocks is an installation made up of very ordinary things that might be found in a woman’s bag or wardrobe. A row of small shelves displays quotidian objects – a pair of canvas shoes, a watch, an envelope, a bank book, a packet of cigarettes. A woman’s shirt, slightly crumpled, hangs on the wall. Tiny, moving watch hands are attached to each object, almost invisible until you look closely. It suggests how we waste time in the everyday minutiae of a life: all those seconds, minutes and hours spent on truly unimportant things. The installation packs the punch of a Vanitas, despite its unassuming appearance.
