In Jiang Chunlin’s Celebrity Interviews video series, his Central Academy of Fine Arts graduation piece, the artist dresses as historical and art historical figures – Mao Zedong, Karl Marx, Albert Einstein, Lu Xun and Marcel Duchamp – and gives fictional answers to questions about contemporary society. Mao, for example, decries China’s food safety problems and suggests that corrupt businessmen should be arrested, but is told there are not enough jails to hold them all. At the end of each eight-minute ‘interview’ the artist removes his disguise.
